The sport of golf has deep Scottish roots! Evidence of the game was first recorded in the 15th century, and the modern game of golf we now play was first developed and established in Scotland. Evidence has shown that golf was played on Musselburgh Links as early as 1567, when Mary, Queen of Scots reputedly played there!
Again in 2018, organizers of the Gathering of the Scots Festival will be partnering with the prestigious Aroostook Valley Country Club to host their “Celtic 2-Man Scramble” on Wednesday evening, May 30th.
Only a short drive from Perth-Andover, AVCC is a semi-private club located in a beautiful rural setting overlooking the Aroostook River between the small towns of Ft. Fairfield, Maine and Four Falls, New Brunswick. With a history dating back to 1929, it is at Aroostook Valley Country Club where the Stars and Stripes and Maple Leaf fly side by side; where you can tee off on holes #1 (The International), #2 (The Grove) or #9 (Old Ironsides) and literally hit it “out of the country”. It’s where the US-Canada international boundary divides our 18-hole golf course and clubhouse in Canada from our Pro Shop and parking lot in the USA.
Experience the haunting sounds of our “lone bagpiper” as you make your way around this beautiful course! Lots of unique prizes will follow at the club house! And remember, although kilts are totally optional, although . . . special presentations will be awarded for best dressed Scottish attire!
